Fabric Replacement

New cloth, same furniture — planned so the pattern sits properly

Fabric

Fabric replacement is a full recover with the emphasis on cloth: wear rating, pattern matching, and how it will look in your light. The old covering comes off, the internals are checked, and the new fabric is cut so rails, seats and backs read as one piece.

We help you avoid a pretty fabric that pills in six months, and a pattern that was never meant to turn a corner. The workshop exists to make those choices physical, not theoretical.

  • Pattern matching
  • Family-proof weaves
  • Velvets and plains
  • Internals checked

Fabric chosen for wear, colour and how the piece is used

Repair first

We look at the frame, springs, foam and covering separately. If a joint is loose, new cloth will not save it. The honest sequence is inspect, repair, then recover — only if the piece is worth it.

Replace only if needed

Some modern frames are chipboard. Some hides are finished. We would rather say a piece is not worth covering than take a recover that fails in months.

What this actually includes

Explained, not just listed.

01

Fabric guidance

Colour, texture and wear talked through against how you actually sit.

02

Pattern plan

Stripes, checks and large prints laid out before scissors come out.

03

Internals first

Foam and frame checked so new cloth is not wasted on a failed seat.

04

Finish quality

Tension, piping and stitch lines that make the recover look factory-clean.

How the job runs

From photos to a piece you can sit on.

A clear path from first pictures to workshop finish — so you always know what happens next.

  1. Bring the room

A photo of the space matters as much as a photo of the sofa.

  2. Shortlist cloth

Two or three weaves that will last, not twenty samples that will not.

  3. Strip and recut

Old fabric off, new covers sewn to the existing pattern of the piece.

  4. Fit

Stretched and finished so it will not bag in a month.

Honest comparison

Advantages & disadvantages

What this service does well — and what to weigh up before you commit.

Advantages

  • Clearest visual change when structure is already sound
  • Full control over colour, texture and cleanability
  • Can update a room without new furniture footprints
  • Opportunity to upgrade foam while cloth is off

Disadvantages

  • Hides frame issues if inspection is skipped
  • Busy patterns need more metres and careful cutting
  • Lead time waits on fabric delivery
  • Old piping or button layouts may need redesign

This page is a good fit if…

  • Furniture whose only real problem is tired or stained cloth
  • A complete colour change for a room refresh
  • Patterned fabrics that need a workshop, not a staple gun
Quick answers

Questions people actually ask.

Often yes, if there is enough and it is suitable for upholstery. We will confirm meterage.
Some performance cloths work well for families. True outdoor canvas is a different conversation.
Close, not identical. Dye lots and years of sun are honest limits.
