Repair first
We look at the frame, springs, foam and covering separately. If a joint is loose, new cloth will not save it. The honest sequence is inspect, repair, then recover — only if the piece is worth it.
Colour, cracks and worn seats — repair or recover, decided properly
Leather fails as colour loss, cracks on the seat, splits on the piping, and worn bolsters. Some of that can be cleaned and colour-matched. Some needs a panel. Some needs a full recover because the hide is finished. We would rather say which is which than sell a kit over a failed skin.
Where repair will not last, we recover in leather or fabric. Vehicle seats and domestic sofas are both in this conversation, with different hides and wear patterns.

Some modern frames are chipboard. Some hides are finished. We would rather say a piece is not worth covering than take a recover that fails in months.
Surface wear versus structural splits — they are different jobs.
Small splits and colour loss treated where the rest of the hide is sound.
High-wear seats and arms recovered when repair would be cosmetic only.
Some sofas are happier in a good cloth than in cheap replacement leather.
