Armchair Upholstery

One good armchair is often worth more than a new pair

Armchairs

Armchairs take more wear per seat than a sofa — the same person sits in the same place every evening. Arms polish, wings flatten, and the seat height drops. Recovering lets you keep a favourite reading chair or wingback and make it comfortable again.

We can match it to a sofa, or give it its own fabric as an accent. Small furniture still gets the same strip-down, foam and sewing sequence as a large suite.

What this actually includes

Explained, not just listed.

01

Arm rebuild

Padded arms recut so they feel even and look sharp at the front.

02

Seat support

Webbing, springs and foam assessed so the chair does not bottom out.

03

Back and wings

Wings and backs reshaped where padding has migrated.

04

Pairs welcome

Two chairs recovered together so fabric roll and fill match.

How the job runs

From photos to a piece you can sit on.

A clear path from first pictures to workshop finish — so you always know what happens next.

  1. Send photos

Whole chair plus the arm and seat you sit on most.

  2. Decide the look

Match the sofa, contrast it, or restore a traditional wingback.

  3. Workshop recover

Frame checked, padding reset, new covering fitted.

  4. Home again

Returned ready to sit — not stiff, not sagging.

Honest comparison

Advantages & disadvantages

What this service does well — and what to weigh up before you commit.

Advantages

  • Ideal when one favourite chair still has a sound frame
  • Easier to handle than a full sofa for collection and bench work
  • Foam and spring work can fix a sagging sit without a new chair
  • Good test piece if you want to try a fabric before a larger job

Disadvantages

  • Matching a pair later can be hard if the first cloth is discontinued
  • Very light frames may not justify a full recover
  • Wing chairs and deep buttons take more labour time
  • Leather or velvet choices change feel and wear habits

This page is a good fit if…

  • Inherited chairs with a solid frame
  • Pairs that no longer match the room
  • Fireside or bedroom chairs in daily use
